1. Anneka - Promise

I came across Anneka by accident, catching the back end of her set opening for Neon Indian last year. I heard/saw enough to book her for a Be Nothing event in support of High Places the other night. She’s a great talent and based in Brighton too. I’ll be posting a full feature on her in a few days, including an interview. So, watch this space.

    Promise indeed.

  2. Something to do in Brighton

As far as parties on schools night go, this is the one.

  3. Flights - Anywhere But Where I Am

This is the first ‘non-Brighton’ music to get posted here, and for that reason it’s pretty special music. If you don’t already know, Flights are Eric Hillman and Brian Holl from Wisconsin, and as you’re about to find out, their debut LP ‘Anywhere But Where I Am’ is a beautifully captivating piece of work that is gracious yet powerful enough to make you feel sheltered in isolation. I’ve been listening to this record for a couple of days now, and every time I go back to it I feel as though I’m listening to it for the first time again, a rare quality. You could download the album for free, however, if you listen to it first you’ll want to pay for it.

  4. BTN #2: Tourist - Placid Acid

Newly rebranded Tourist (formerly Little Loud) has given us a taster track self-titled EP due to be dropped on March 12th via Make Mine. On ‘Placid Acid’, Tourist (Will Phillips by day) applies, to great effect, the same style of soft synth rapture that previously laced his many remixes under the moniker Little Loud. The Tourist live show is still in it’s early stages, so far just a couple of impromptu appearances supporting Com Truise in November and headlining Green Door Store’s 1st birthday party earlier on this year. Even so, his debut ‘dancefloor friendly’ set with Com Truise was promising to say the least. I for one can’t wait for the rest of the EP.

  5. A Promotional video from Be Nothing for their event hosting Teengirl Fantasy next Sunday in Brighton @ Green Door Store. Also on the bill that night are Brighton based trio Regal Safari and Londoner via Berlin via Paris o F F Love.

  6. BTN #1: Great Bays - Golden Shades

I came across Brighton based Great Bays circulating various blogs earlier this week. He/She/They? recently upped 3 tracks to his/her/their soundcloud . The pick of the bunch for me is ‘Golden Shades’.  Aptly filed under “Chill” Golden Shades effortlessly blends percussion, synths, guitars, and a piano line that holds enough exuberance to usher in an early summer (Al Gore knows). A similar, though less intense sort of bliss can be found on Delorean’s ‘Ayrton Senna’ EP.
